The Gluten-Free Support Group of Northwestern Pennsylvania meets the second Saturday of each month at 10am at the Hamot Heart Institute, 120 East 2nd Street. Activities are planned monthly and GF food is sampled often. Newcomers are always Welcome. Please contact Nancy Zimmer at 474-5264 with questions about the support group.
The next support group meeting is February 13th.

CSA Gluten-Free Erie, PA #135 meets on an as needed basis. Look on this website for meeting times and places. A report on Chapter activity and functions is given at each Gluten-Free Support Group meeting. Contact an officer at any time for information.
Our annual CSA meeting will be held on March 13th immediately following the Gluten-Free Support Group meeting. All members or people who wish to join are invited to attend. We will review 2009, agenda for 2010, and elect officers for the coming year.

Our Chapter had a very successful year and brought much needed awareness to the city of Erie and the general area. CSA 2009:
Wegman's tours for newly diagnosed. Six people attended our first tour in May and six attended our September 16th tour. Thanks to Wendy Harkins at the West 26th Street Wegman's, and Rhonda McGill at the Peach Street Wegman's for their participation. The date for our next tour will be determined soon. Our chapter was the Host Chapter for the National CSA Conference held in Erie October 30th through November 1st. Dietitian's Day was held on October 29th. Our chapter provided scholarships for 13 local Dietitians to attend. Visit the National CSA website www.csaceliacs.org for information. The Conference was a hugh success and brought lots of awareness to the Erie and surrounding areas.
Dinners were held at Outback Steakhouse, Raj Mahal, The Erie Yacht Club, Maria's Pizza, etc. Look on this website for details on future dinners.
A cooking demonstration by Lori Karavolis (Lori Bakes) on Sunday, May 17th. Approximately 20 people attended. Thanks to Lori for dedicating her time and effort.
Our SeaWolves outing complete with an all-you-can-eat buffet including gluten-free hotdogs and hamburgers (with gluten-free buns), fruit, dessert, various other items, and Redbridge beer was held on Saturday, July 25th. Over 60 people attended. It was a successful event and one that will be repeated in the future. All proceeds from this event were used to provide scholarships to local CSA members to attend the National CSA Conference at the Bayfront Convention Center at the end of October.
Educating local Dietitians, Physicians, and Chefs on the gluten-free diet and Celiac Disease.
We will be working with both Wegman's and Giant Eagle on West 12th street to streamline their GF selections so that they will have items available that will meet everyone's needs.
Our members only Christmas party was held on December 12th. We had a good turnout and all food and beverages were provided.
Join our local chapter today so you can help us to continue our mission of making our commmunity a better place for people living gluten-free.

Try Boston's new gluten-free pizza!
Maria's Pizza on West Grandview Blvd. is now serving gluten-free pizza. On Wednesday, September 2nd, we hosted an all-you-can-eat buffet style dinner including pizza, salad, and pop.
Watch for upcoming Celiac Awareness activities. We will be visiting grocery stores, restaurants, etc. to provide information and spread awareness to the general public. Anyone interested in helping with awareness activities please contact Cindy Christiansen (838-0599) or Sue Orinick (833-5540).

The Betty C. Toperzer, M.D. Memorial walk for Celiac Awareness
on Sunday, October 5, 2008 was very successful. The food was amazing! We had a good turnout and raised a significant amount of money. The funds raised will be used for advocacy and awareness in the local area. Our next awareness walk will take place in the spring of 2010.
